CMOs, at least the last time I checked — are people too. So just like the rest of us mere mortals our moods, our likes, etc. are impacted by the changing seasons.

It is this changing of seasons that is the topic for the latest installment of the CMO Social Stat of the Month, courtesy of Oracle Marketing Cloud and Leadtail — a social strategy firm that has built a panel of over 1,000 B2B and B2C CMOs and marketing executives located in North America and active on Twitter. They uncover social insights reports on CMOs and other decision makers.

Here's the CMO Social Stat of the Month for February 2016: Most Popular Hashtags From August 2015 compared to February 2016.

"It was a busy month for special occasions!" says Karri Carlson, VP Social Insights at Leadtail. "The shortest calendar month played host to on outsized number of high profile media, sports and pop culture events that captured the attention of CMOs, including the Super Bowl, the GRAMMYs, another GOP debate, and the Oscars."

Carlson noted that chatter around #data, #innovation, #advertising and #cloud were all up, each making significant gains over where they ranked 6 months ago compared to #Periscope, #ecommerce, #social and #design which were down. "Even though we hear lots of marketers talking about live streaming services like Blab and Periscope, interest seems to have cooled significantly since August," says Carlson.

As far as what was new in February 2016, new hashtags included tech topics like #SaaS,  #cybersecurity and #technology.

As the marketer’s role continues to morph at light speed in an attempt to deliver a seamless positive customer experience across all touch points, so does the technology underneath and the associated headaches.
